Our hygienists at Cabinteely Dental Care play a key role in our practice. They are our best defence against tooth loss and best asset in protecting your oral and general health. 90% of the work we dentists do is totally and utterly preventable if we can get our patients working with a hygienist.

What does a Hygienist do?

Our hygienists are specially trained to manage and prevent periodontal gum disease and to educate our patients about keeping their mouth healthy. They help our patients to stay dentally healthy and will help to reduce your risks of future treatment needs.

The hygienist will carefully remove the hard deposits of calculus (tartar) that build up on the teeth and will teach you exactly how to prevent this from reforming. They will carry out a range of professional teeth cleaning procedures depending on your particular requirements from a general scale and polish to deep root planing. They will also discuss your diet and recommend other preventative measures. They provide each patient at our practice with tailor made programmes to keep your mouth as clean and healthy as possible on a day to day basis.

Why should I visit a Hygienist?

Visiting our hygienist on a regular basis will help maintain good oral hygiene, prevent gum/periodontal disease, reduce your risk of future treatment needs and improve your overall health. There are a lot of current studies that suggest that oral health and gum disease in particular are related to serious conditions like heart disease so overall prevention will play a crucial role in your overall health.

How often should I attend the Hygienist?

We would recommend you would attend the hygienist as least twice yearly, however this will vary on the condition of your overall oral health and it will differ from patient to patient. Regular check ups will help determine how many yearly visits you may need.
