Extractions

At Cabinteely Dental Care, we understand that life is not like it is on the silver screen and not everyone will have perfect teeth. Accordingly, if dental treatment should become necessary then you might find that you need one, two or even several teeth removed. Through the use of local anaesthetic and proper patient care, the removal of teeth need not be an uncomfortable one.

General extractions

The list of reasons behind why you need one or several teeth extracted is extensive. Gum disease, tooth decay and even a broken tooth which is beyond repair are examples of such, but when extraction is needed there is no amount of painkillers or antibiotics that will sufficiently numb the pain as the cause of it will still remain.

Orthodontic extractions

While a tooth might not be infected, or gum disease has not have evolved as a result of poor oral health, there may still come the need to remove a tooth should other teeth require more space to move in order to create a straighter smile. Tooth extraction is often the last resort, and it isn't the norm for children because their teeth are still growing, but if the dentist decides that extraction is needed then they will talk you through the procedure to ensure any fears are eased.

Surgical extractions

If the tooth cannot be removed in a dentist's surgery under local anaesthetic, surgery might be needed. This is more of an invasive treatment but one that is completely safe in the hands of an experienced dentist. Though surgical extraction may sound scary, the alternative is for the infected tooth to stay in the mouth and is not advised. The dentist will be more than happy to talk you through the procedure.

Upper wisdom teeth extractions

Unlike other teeth, upper wisdom teeth usually have three roots and not two. Consequently, the process of removing wisdom teeth need not be as painful as any regular extraction as the roots can be easily located. If you are in pure agony as a result of your wisdom teeth coming through, it is suggested that you discuss this issue with your dentist as resolving this issue sooner rather than later is often the best route.

At Cabinteely Dental Care, we believe that the extraction of teeth need not be a horrific event. If you would like to learn more about the procedure, or discuss any worries you may have, then please contact our team at our South Dublin clinic today.
